The longing
desire of late Mar Severios to have a convent in his native parish in order to
assist with the pastoral needs of the faithful was at last fulfilled with the
starting of a religious house (convent) belonging to the Institute of the
Fervant of Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (FDSHJ). Through the president
effort of Rev. Fr. George Thundiyil, the then parish priest of Bethlehem
Malankara Church, Anicadu on May 13, 1998. The aim of starting this convent
were two fold. First to help the parish priest with the pastoral needs of the
parish, where sisters could be of use. Second to begin proceeding English medium
elementary school which would be carried on by the personal appointed by the
parish committee, since academic educational activities at a higher level does
not fall into the charism and apostolate of the FDSHJ
Missionary
Activities
First and foremost of the sisters see to the cleanliness
and order and beauty of the dwelling place of the Lord of Hosts. Secondly the
sisters by their fervent singing, praying and devout participation in the
liturgical functions edify and encourage the parishioners to participate in the
liturgical services with faith and love. Thirdly the sisters teach in the Sunday
schools and help the parishioners especially the children to prepare for the
reception of the sacraments of reconciliation, Holy communion and confirmation.
These are occasions when adults are prepared for baptism and subsequently for
the sacrament of matrimony. As part of the activities of their family
apostolate the sisters visit the families daily and conduct prayer services give
counseling when needed and also prepare the sick and the elderly for the
reception of the sacraments as well as bring relief to them in whatever way they
are able. The sisters make all possible efforts to gather greater number of
people for special functions in the Church such as retreats, conventions and
parish feasts also during Christmas and Easter Seasons and Festivals. The
above mention services as rendered by the sisters in two parishes ? the second
parish which receive the sisters? missionary activities.
Events
When the convent was started, the sisters helped to conduct a
Nursery school with English as the medium of instruction. As the years went by
this continued as a proceeding Elementary School. Since the FDSHJ do not
conduct schools, due to the insistence of the parish committee the sisters
carried on with the supervision of the proceeding classes. When the convent
was started the sisters lived in a rented house for two years. Afterwards the
sisters? residence was shifted to another rented house for a further period of
two years by the end of those two years the sisters were blessed with the boom
of a convent building of their own together with an acre of rubber plantation
for their maintenance both of which were provided by the Malankara Diocese of
Tiruvalla.
The generous of heart of His Excellency Bishop Timotheos was
not satisfied by providing a building and the means for their for the sister
maintenance he also desired eagerly to have a chapel for the sisters in order to
have greater intimacy with the Lord which alone would provide success and
fruitfulness in the sisters activities. Hence on the 19th of September the
convent Chapel was blessed. In spite of his age and illness, Bishop participated
in the Blessing Ceremonies conducted by Archbishop Koorilos. May the Lord who
called us to be his own and to participate in this redemptive mission help us to
live our consecrated life totally and authentically so as to provide joy and
consolations to His divine heart and to our ecclesiastical superiors and may He
enable us to be ?salt of the earth and light of the world? for the faithful for
whom and with whom we live and work, and thus we may all together praise the
goodness of His infinite Bounty in His own time in His Eternal
Kingdom.
